FALL
Missouri fall brings a cool, clear air that welcomes a second life to the cool season blooms we enjoyed earlier in the year. Maples and oaks glow orange and russet soaks everything in a warm light. Gardens and markets are overflowing with dahlias in deep burgundy, rust, blush, and plum during this time of year. For florists, fall adds rich foliage: fiery maple and oak leaves, weeping willow and poplar for sweeping lines and branching silhouettes.
In fall I enjoy using fresh and dried stems. Fall can be a great time for harvesting and collecting seeds for the next growing year. Utilizing seedpods, grasses and dried stems alongside fresh foliage and blooms adds rich, lasting texture in floral arrangements unique to fall. It’s a season for long walks, gathering stems into moody bouquets, and putting the gardens to rest.
